MetaMask, the popular Ethereum crypto wallet, has expanded into the Apple ecosystem by integrating with the company’s payments platform.
On March 29, MetaMask announced its mobile version 4.3.1 update, which included the integration of Apple Pay.
The catch is that Apple does not directly support cryptocurrency payments through its platform, so it’s through Wyre, which does support cryptocurrency and integrates with Apple Pay.
Users can now purchase cryptocurrency using debit or credit cards, removing the need to send ETH to the app ahead of time. Using their Visa or Mastercards and the Wyre API, Apple Pay users can deposit up to $400 into their wallets daily.
MetaMask also uses the Transak payment platform, allowing users to purchase cryptocurrency with credit or debit cards. However, those who want to use either payment platform must go through the KYC (know-your-customer) process.
The Support for gasless transactions, in which private blockchains, or a project or protocol, pay for gas on the user’s behalf, was also added in the recent update.
According to reports, MetaMask has surpassed 30 million monthly active users, making it one of the most popular cryptocurrency wallets on the market today. ConsenSys, the Ethereum solutions firm behind the wallet, also announced a $450 million fundraising.
